The speech-controlled operating method allows a machine or device (12), e.g. a home entertainment system, to be operated by at least one hand-held remote-control device (15) with an input keyboard, which is linked to a computer (14), containing a control program for supplying control functions for the controlled machine or device in dependence on entered speech signals, via a computer link. An Independent claim for a speech-controlled operating device is also included.
