The conveyor belt has steel cables embedded in an elastomer material and with two belt sections whose cable ends interfit in a connecting point. O-rings (22) of elastomer material are fitted onto the cable ends (16, 17) to stop the spread of any cracks appearing at the connecting point. Several such O-rings can be fitted on at the same or different intervals from the end face of each cable end. The wall thickness of the rings can equal the internal space between the adjoining cables.
