Early detection of slag in a casting ladle pouring tube (2) involves using the difference in vibrations caused by molten metal flow and slag flow. Early detection of slag flow through a casting ladle pouring tube (2), which is moved by a manipulator (5) and which delivers the ladle contents to a tundish (3), is effected using the difference in movements caused by molten metal passage and slag passage. An Independent claim is also included for equipment for carrying out the above process, comprising acceleration sensors (6) for detecting movements caused by flow through the pouring tube (2).
