Use of an alkali-free silicon, magnesium and heavy alkaline earth metal oxide mixture, for a high thermal expansion coefficient glass-ceramic joint material, is new. An alkali-free oxide mixture, containing 35-55% SiO2, 20-50% MgO and -5% total (}15% each) of one or more of CaO, SrO and BaO, is used as a glass-ceramic joint material or for producing such a material having a thermal expansion coefficient of -10*10-6 K-1 for high temperature use.
