The cowl is provided with a heater constructed as a single layer carbon and glass fibre fabric(9). The heating fabric is located in the region of windscreen wiper in the parked position, and is beneath an electric insulating heat conducting screen(5). Independent claims are included for a use for the heating fabric, in which it is used as a heater for a cowl to accommodate at least one windscreen wiper in a parked position, and for a method of operating a heating fabric for a cowl in which the heater is switched on in response to a position sensor on the windscreen wiper.
