The crutch comprises an infinitely telescopic adjustable rod with lower and upper sections (22, 24). A lower sleeve (10) has a conically downwardly tapering chamber in which a conical compressible element (12) is contained matching the conical inside face (18) of the chamber. The compressible element has a central cylindrical opening through which the lower shaft section is passed. The upper shaft section fits on an upper sleeve element (16) which fits onto the lower sleeve (10) through a thread (28). the upper shaft section can be screwed into the upper sleeve element. A compression ring (14) fits between the upper sleeve element and conical element.
