To register the rotary speed of the spinning rotor of an open end spinner, without contact, a permanent magnet as a signal transmitter (24) is at the end side of a rotor shaft support disk and a pulse signal receiver (26) is at a mobile maintenance unit which is brought to the spinning station. A ferromagnetic intermediate component (30) bridges the gap between the signal transmitter (24) and pulse receiver (26). The ferromagnetic intermediate component (30) is fitted to the spinner assembly (31), at a swing housing section (42). The ferromagnetic intermediate component (30) is a strip of sheet metal, shaped to the contour (51) of the swing housing section (42), with a magnetic insulation against neighboring components. The pulse signal receiver (26) has a ferrous core (61,62) within a shrouding induction coil (63).
