The holding rod (1) is positively connected at its bottom end to the spreader (3) drive (5) using a four-cornered recess at this rod end to plug onto the drive or again a slot here to fit into a corresponding part of the drive. The rod is round in section and has a top end grip (15) for personnel. A radial pin (7) on the lower part of the rod rides in a slot in the container (4) once the rod has been inserted in this (4). The container is held in the inside of the insert ring (2) via projections and the container presents an elongated sleeve for the rod and is supported against the shaft wall by a further projection (11) at the bottom end of the rod. The rod doubles up as holder and actuator for the spreader drive, typically shaft (8) and sliding tong arms (12).
