The method involves measuring the spillway height at several measurement points along the spillway threshold (15) and deriving the total throughput from these measurements. The differential flow at the measurement points is derived from the measurement values with respect to the length of the threshold. The values between the measurement points are approximated using one or more polynomial functions of second or higher order that are integrated along the threshold to derive the total flow. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for measuring water throughput at a spillway threshold parallel to a channel or similar.
