A rotating field machine has a phase number of at least four and a winding connected in the ring. By a change of the basic clock sequence of the connected converter half-bridge, the number of the winding phases working in series can be reduced and at the same time more than two semiconductor paths work effectively. The winding has a phase number of at least four for the purpose of increasing the power capability and is connected in the ring. To improve the properties, a distributed air gap field, as rectangular as possible, is used and for the working winding, one slot per pole per phase is used.
