When, during a multi-channel broadcast, the signal is distorted so that a direct multi-channel reproduction is not possible, spatial information is extracted from the data signal and combined with the mono signal to provide an artificial spatially distributed music sound by separation of different frequency bands and application of different time delays and damping levels to different channels. An Independent claim is made for a multi-channel receiver with a multi-channel decoder for use with the above procedure.
