Temperature regulation of circulating bainitic quenching gas is by regulated passage through parallel-connected cooling and heating flow channels (11, 12). Temperature regulation, during bainitization by quenching gas passage over a charge (2) in a quenching chamber (1), is carried out by separate flow rate regulation of the heated quenching gas, leaving the chamber (1), through parallel-connected cooling and heating flow channels (11, 12) of a gas circuit (10). An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for carrying out the above process.
