The internal combustion engine (100) has an intake manifold (102) with pressure and temperature sensors (108,112). Other sensors measure a range of engine parameters that allow a control unit to regulate fuel injection and spark ignition. The dynamic phase of the system is determined and a correction is applied to the ignition to prevent engine knock.
