The method involves indicating the current braking state of the vehicle to following traffic using an analogue or digital optical signal whose appearance is related to the current braking force or braking intensity. A signalling arrangement has a red light strip mounted on the rear of the vehicle. Independent claims are also included for a signalling device and for a use of a signalling device.
