The book-binding machine has a conveyor system (8) for stacked sheets of paper, with conveyor chain (5) running round a drive (3) and driven (4) chain wheel. Separately movable interlocking links have equidistant clips (6) movably placed on the chain and guided in tracks of the machine frame. Processing units are arranged along straight conveyor stretches. A cover-placement machine (7) is driven directly by the driven chain wheel of the conveyor system by means of drive element (11-15). The covers (1) are supplied in synchronized cycles to the stacked sheets (2) conveyed in clips.
