The working surface (8) of a test body (1) is brought into contact with the product (2) to be manufactured . Fluid is introduced via a central passage (3) until the material has been removed partially or entirely. This includes a mounting for the test body, a fluid supply and a pressure display (6, 7). Preferred features: Application of the material (2) to the surface takes place under conditions closely resembling those of production. The fluid is supplied at defined volumetric rate; or supply is controlled or regulated during pressure rise. Production conditions are closely approximated, especially in temperature and pressure, during testing. The material has a defined geometric form, preferably being a circular disc. A particular implementation of the method is detailed with reference to drawings contained in the disclosure.
