A combustion chamber (2) is involved in the optimization of the combustion process, with combustion air (29) fed into at least one inlet (7) via an air feed conduit (8). Exhaust gas (23) is fed from the combustion chamber via an outlet (9) and a conduit. Air (14) enriched with oxygen can be fed to the combustion chamber (2). Ahead of the combustion chamber is a storage container which can be filled with oxygen and is connected via an oxygen conduit with the air feed conduit (8). Ahead of the combustion chamber is a gas separation system (3), connected with the air feed conduit. The system comprises membranes (11) fed with atmospheric air (13) via a compressor (22).
