A control rod (12) is accommodated inside the longitudinal hollow shaft (10) of the surgical instrument which acts on two claws (14,16), positioned at the tip of the shaft (10). The lower claw (14) is stationary and has a U-shaped open space with a cutting edge in the center, while the upper claw (16), which is also provided with a U-shaped cutting edge, can be swiveled around a horizontally positioned bolt (18). The motion, resulting from the handle being manipulated is transferred to the claws (14,16) via a movable latch (38) by a plunger (26), its lower end (30,32) fitting to the shape of the rear end (20,22,24) of the claws (14,16).
