The gas burner operating method and device has the time delay between the main gas flow (H) and the auxiliary gas flow (N1.N2) and the auxiliary gas flow quantity regulated during starting of the gas burner via a start program used by a burner control. The latter may store the setting upon previous operation of the gas burner for using the same settings for the next operation of the burner.
