Method of setting up a communications connection via an extension system, e.g. for tele-working applications

The method involves making a connection to a service equipment (Pho) with the ability to set up a communications connection for a calling subscriber for a communications network (DN) outside the first extension system (150E). Using connection information entered by the first subscriber, the equipment checks whether the connection is to be made within the first communications network or outside in the form of an external connection. For the case in which an external connection is to be set up, the equipment interrogates a first subscriber authorisation identifier and sets up the connection if the identifier is entered correctly.
