The apparatus to brew a beverage has a swing filter (10) with a filter carrier (12) and a filter (14). The upper edge has a closure surface (16) which lies against the sealing surface (18) at the cover (20). The swing filter (10) pivots on an axis (22), from the closed position (24) into an open position, so that on closing the closure edge surface (18) is brought against the cover sealing surface (18) and, on opening, it is moved away from the sealing. When the filter (10) is closed, it is held in place by a ratchet lock. The swing axis (22) for the filter (10) is at an angle against the vertical (30), towards the opening direction (32). The filter (14) and the closure surface (16) are in one piece.
