The multiple stage, compartmented extraction tower for organic light-phase and raffinate heavy-phase processes has, in each stage, comprises a mixing chamber (1M...4M, etc.) with an agitator, coalescer (KP) and separator chamber (1T...4T). The agitators may be glandless, magnetic coupled units. The agitators can be withdrawn without the need for fully draining the mixer chambers. The agitator glands are provided with flush systems to prevent ingress of highly corrosive process solution into the drive housings.
