The method involves moving the medium (1) with respect to. a read head to read recorded digital information using a drive controlled by an operating program. An electronic transponder circuit (4,5) providing access control information is mounted on the recording medium. Access control information is read from the transponder circuit under the control of the operating program by a transponder interrogation circuit in the drive (10) and a processing decision is made depending on the result of the interrogation. Independent claims are also included for a recording medium and for a drive for a recording medium.
