Sail batten of free-set tandem rods uses crosspiece rods in free space between rod overlaps to prevent batten twist with sail run taut.

The batten is nontwistably guided relative the sail on the luff on the slide to give a free space between the overlaps to take several crosspieces (8) which in turn work with the tautened sail (6) and batten pocket (7) to grasp the batten rod or bar with narrow clearance and in this way prevent the sail twisting round. The crosspiece consists of a square section guide rod (8). This works with batten and pocket (7) and limiter (3). The crosspiece lies flat and flexible or rigid between the overlaps or as bolt running below the bottom batten or fixed to the batten pocket. The batten is firmly guided by a crosspiece on the leech rope likewise. Batten and rods (2) are guided loosely by the limit sleeve (3) and so fill this (3) out and with the rod end movement limited.
