The cooling tower has a skeletal support construction (4) for various constituents, rectangular in horizontal cross-section, and positioned above a collection basin (5) for back-cooled cooling water. Vertical bars are provided, which in several superimposed height planes are connected together by horizontal beams (16,16a,16b) in quadratic, cell-type configurations. Quadratic cells (17) on both sides of the vertical central longitudinal plane (MLE) and the vertical central cross plane (MQE) are stiffened by diagonal braces (18) in the form of cross-formed stiffening frameworks (19) arranged in the height planes of the beams.
