The mirror has a foot (3) and a mirror head (5) pivoted about the foot against an elastic element (4), e.g. a traction spring. The spring is fastened to one end (4a) of a holder (6), which is moveable relative to mirror head and foot. The pivot movement of the mirror head out of its in-use position in at least one direction, is converted into a movement of the holder via a pivot drive (7,8). During this process, the force of the spring rises initially and the drops during further movement.
