The safety device has a foot rest (36) in the front footwell of the vehicle joined (24) at its upper edge to a front boundary wall (10) of the footwell so as to maintain or reduce the normal foot rest angle between the inclined surface of the footwell and a plane parallel to the road. A flexurally stiff support (26) acting on the footrest has a lower end (28) rigidly attached to the boundary wall and an upper end (32) acting on the footrest beneath the joint. An Independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle with a safety device.
