A process for the production of cyanuric chloride by trimerization of cyanogen chloride at 250 deg C or more in presence of washed active carbon with a BET surface of at least 1000 m2/g and an iron content (as Fe2O3) of less than 0.15 wt.%, in which the carbon shows an effective pore volume of at least 0.17 ml/g, comprising pores with a diameter of 0.5-7 nm.
