Dyeing of synthetic or semi-synthetic materials involves using colloidal dispersions of precipitated, water-insoluble or difficultly soluble dyes or optical brightening agents with a mean particle size of 5 nanometers to 5 micrometers and a variation of less than 50 %. An Independent claim is included for a process for the application of precipitated, water-insoluble or difficultly soluble optical brightening agents under the same conditions.
