The system has a deflection roller(12) through which the damp web(4) is guided, and an application device which directly transfers a water solution(14) onto the deflection roller. The deflection roller has a hydrophilous surface which may consist of chrome. The application device has a roller(16a) which is adjustable on the deflection roller. The application device also has a water solution tank(18) and a scoop roller(20) which takes the water solution from the tank and transfers it to the application roller. An Independent claim is included for a web-fed rotary press which includes the proposed deflection roller and application roller to transfer a water solution directly onto the deflection roller.
