The spool accommodates a storage tape and contains a hub dimensioned to accommodate the tape. Two guide rods are attached to the hub at a distance apart and are designed so that they can guide the tape between them on the hub. At least one guide rod has a rounded cross-section so that the tape comes into contact with a rounded surface. Independent claims are also included for a cassette for holding the spool, a tape mechanism, a storage library and a method of producing a spool.
