A bearing has titanium-containing steel race elements induction hardened at the track area to form dispersed titanium carbides or carbonitrides. An induction hardened rolling bearing has rolling elements located between race elements, at least one of which consists of an alloy containing (by wt.) 0.40-0.90% C, 0.05-0.80% Si, 0.10-2.0% Mn, 0.05-0.50% Ti and = 0.03% N, and is induction hardened at the track area to form dispersed Ti carbides or carbonitrides of 5-100 nm average particle diameter at the surface and within the race element to increase the hardness of the track area to -59 HRC.
