The tread edge protector consists of two profile rods, one having legs at right angles (6,4) plus a descending leg (7) made fast to the stair tread base. Two first and second further legs (3,5) at right angles are fitted at right angles to a third leg so the first leg runs parallel to the third leg and completes a U-shaped interval (8) taking the one leg (10) of the second profile rod. The two legs of one rod are thicker than the first mentioned leg and the first and third legs are Z-toothed in the upper leg third as opposed to the bottom third of their length which is smooth and offset from the teeth (18). One of the two legs is slotted (20) to a specified depth and the rear leg issues downwards in tapered form. The leg of the top rod is Z-toothed right through on the sides opposed to the teeth in the U-slot specified.
