The starter device has the shaft (13) of the starter motor (11) linked, through a transmission, to the drive element (19), mounted to slide axially, to mesh with a free wheel (18) and a drive pinion (24). The intermediate transmission is a planetary gear system (15), with the sun gear (14) on the end of the drive shaft and the planet wheels (28) on a carrier (25), which forms the output shaft of the intermediate transmission. The planet wheels mesh with a hollow ring (29), carried by a one directional free wheel cage (30).
