Copolymers with units derived from unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds and silanol-siloxane bridging units with silicon-linked hydroxyl, alkoxy, amino, ester or acylamino groups. Copolymers with optionally repeating units of formula (I) and formula (II); m, p = whole numbers greater than 0; n = 1; o = 0 or 1; Y = a direct bond or a group of formula -CR2- or -COO-(CR2)3-; R = H, alkyl, -R'2OR', -OR', -COOR', -SiRcRdRe, -NRdRc, an organic acid residue or its anhydride or readily hydrolyzable ester or amide of formula -OCORc or -NRd-CORc, phenyl (optionally substituted with 1 or 2 -CR'=CR'2 groups), a group of formula -CReRf-CHRg-SiX3 or -SiOSiO(SiO)mH, an epoxy, aziridine, phosphate or phosphonate group (or their anhydrides) or a direct bond, or two groups R may form the group =CR2; R', Rc-Rg, X = H, OH, alkyl, alkoxy or aryl; in at least one unit of formula (II), at least one Si-linked group R = OH, ORc, NRdRc, -OCORc or -NRdCORc and n = 1, 2, 3 or 4.
