In an electrophotographic photoconductor with a conducting substrate, sub-coat and photoconducting layer comprising a charge generating layer and then a charge transport layer, the charge transport layer contains a tin, zinc, cobalt, nickel, iron or chromium carboxylate (I), derived from a naphth-1-yl-substituted arenecarboxylic acid. In an electrophotographic photoconductor with a conducting substrate, sub-coat and photoconducting layer comprising a charge generating layer and then a charge transport layer, the charge transport layer contains a tin, zinc, cobalt, nickel, iron or chromium carboxylate (I) of formula (A; Z = a single bond), derived from a naphth-1-yl-substituted arenecarboxylic acid; (Naph-Z-Ar1-C(=O)-O)n-X (A) Naph = unsubstituted naphth-1-yl; Ar1 = optionally substituted arylene; X = a metal atom selected from tin, zinc, cobalt, nickel, iron and chromium; n = the valency of X. Independent claims are also included for photoconductors in which (I) is replaced by: (a) a carboxylate (II) with a skeletal stilbenyl group of formula (A; Z = -CH=CH- ); or (b) a carboxylate (III) with a skeletal hydrazonyl group of formula (A; Z = asterisk -CH=N-N(Ar2)- ; asterisk = the bond to the naphthyl group; Ar2 = an alkyl, optionally substituted aryl or aralkyl group hydrogen.
