The distance measuring device (1) uses a laser light beam for scanning a 2-dimensional zone, with detection of the reflected laser light via a 2-dimensional photocell matrix, with evaluation of the time difference between the transmitted and detected light for calculating the distance. The photocells of the photocell matrix are activated in synchronism with the scanning of the 2-dimensional zone by the laser beam, during each scanning cycle.
