The cooler comprises a low pressure circuit and a high pressure gas circuit with a first and second branch opening into a gas expansion orifice. Low pressure expanded gas travels back along the channel (2) from the central chamber (3) to a peripheral outlet. The nestled double helix shape of the branches (4a,4b) force the low pressure gas running through the channel to be highly turbulent, encouraging maximum heat exchange.
