Biochemical analysis instrument uses mixture of sample and smart reagent beads viewed by color CCD camera to perform chemical analysis of medical samples.

Biochemical analysis instrument has a mixture of sample (1) and so called SMART beads (3) which are colored to show the different reagents they carry to react with chemicals being measured. The mixture is viewed in collimated light by a color CCD camera (9) whose digital output is analyzed by computer (13). SMART beads are first identified by visual light (11) and then those which have reacted are found using UV light (17).
