The facsimile machine has a recording arrangement (15,10,11,L,12,13), a paper feed mechanism (2,4,5), a transfer potential application arrangement, a sensor and a controller. The controller sets the transfer potential application device to a starting potential before transfer of the toner image, at least whilst operation of feeding a single sheet is being repeated.
