A clamping element is provided to attach the gas inlet(12) of the airbag to the inflation unit(30) and a locking element prevents the airbag from coming away from the clamping element. The locking element comprises protrusions(16) which stand away from the outer face of the airbag(10). A mounting(20)is provided for attachment of the inflation unit to the structure of the vehicle and comprises a plate(22) and retaining section protruding from it, and holds the inflation unit and section of the gas inlet fitted on it.
