The method is for fabrication of a shaft with larger-diameter flange (12). A round bar blank (10) is rotated about its longitudinal axis relative to a pressure roller (16,18) and upset in axial direction. The material displaced during the upsetting stage is formed to a flange by one of the rollers. The tool may have a pair of rollers at axial distance to each other. The blank is heated in the area where the flange is formed, esp. to a temperature above recristallization temperature.
