A propylene-ethylene- alpha -olefin terpolymer contains 85-99.99 mol.% propylene units and 0.01-15 mol.% comonomer units having a molar ratio of ethylene- alpha -olefin units of 6.5*104-0.99 and has specific elution characteristics in o-dichlorobenzene. A propylene-ethylene- alpha -olefin terpolymer (I) is characterized by: (i) 0.01-15 mol.% comonomer units having a molar ratio of ethylene/4-20C alpha -olefin units of 6.5*104-0.99 and 85-99.99 mol.% propylene units with 0-1 mol.% 2,1 and 1,3-propylene units in the polymer chain (as indicated by 13C NMR); (ii) a weight average molecular weight of 40,000-1,000,000 (GPC) and (iii) no more than 10 wt.% elutable material in o-dichlorobenzene at 40 deg C and no less than 75 wt.% of material eluting in o-dichlorobenzene at greater than 0 deg C, at a temperature within ! 10 deg C of the elution peak temperature. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a process for the production of (I) by copolymerization of propylene, ethylene and a 4-20C alpha -olefin in the presence of a metallocene catalyst of formula (1); (ii) a resin composition (II) based on the terpolymer (I); and (iii) a molded article prepared from (II). M = Ti or Zr; X = H, halogen or hydrocarbon; m, n = 1-3; R1,R2 = 1-20C hydrocarbon, a silicon containing hydrocarbon radical or a divalent group, whereby both R1 and/or R2 may form a 4-8C hydrocarbon ring in conjunction with 2 neighboring C atoms on the cyclopentadienyl ring, optionally substituted by a hydrocarbon radical such that M has no planes of symmetry; Q = Si or Ge; and R0 = H, halogen or a hydrocarbon radical.
