Scintillator compositions comprise the given constituents and any reaction product of these. They comprise mainly yttrium oxide or lutetium oxide and a minor fraction of gadolinium oxide as matrix materials, 3.1-30 mole-% europium oxide as an activator producing at least 99% of the total emission, a minor fraction of an acceptor reducing the decay time and 2-500 molar ppm calcium and 3-500 molar-ppm cerium to reduce radiation damage.
