The piezoelectric resonator includes a piezoelectric substrate (2) and two resonator electrodes (3,4). The substrate is polarized in the thickness direction and the first electrode (3) is partially arrange don the first main surface (2a) of the substrate. The second electrode is partially arranged on the second main surface (2b) of the substrate. The second electrode is arranged so that it lies opposite the first electrode and has a smaller external dimension than that of the first electrode. An Independent claim is included for a piezoelectric resonator.
