The method involves moving the edge (K) to be detected in an object plane (O) with respect to a light beam, so that it intersects the beam axis at an angle, and measuring at least one light intensity in a measurement area (B). The light is focused in at least one direction on the object plane. An optical local redundancy is produced in the object plane or in the measuring area. An Independent claim is included for a device to implement the method.
