A reversing detector (8) detects the reversing of a driving mechanism for an object to be controlled. A signal generator (9) generates a maximum dead travel signal corresponding to the maximum value of a dead travel error at any time at which reversing in the driving mechanism is detected. A filter (10) reduces the level of the maximum dead travel signal by relying on the time expired since reversing in the driving mechanism was detected.
