A key and lock combination that allows the key to be inserted at an angle into the lock has the entry to the lock barrel with sloping sides in all directions. The tip of the flat, reversible key has two rounded edge profiles (6) that meet in a shallow tip angle that is greater than the input conical angle of the lock. The edges of the key tip are chamfered with a slope that is steeper than the corresponding conical input angle of the lock. This allows the key to be inserted into the lock from an angle in any direction, e.g. a vehicle lock.
