The sense amplifier (302) includes a gain stage with an input which can be coupled to a connection having a characteristic impedance, the gain stage having a certain impedance. An active termination is connected to the input of the gain stage. The input impedance of the sense amplifier is formed from the combination of the impedance of the gain stage and that of the active termination. The input impedance of the sense amplifier corresponds to the characteristic impedance of the connection. The active termination may provide positive feedback from the gain stage to the input of the gain stage. Independent claims are included for a channel front end and for a magnetic storage system.
