Open-cell melamine resin foam (MF foam) in which the surface of the cell structure is completely or partly coated with a fluoroalkyl ester. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of MF foam by spraying or impregnating the foam with an aqueous emulsion of a fluoroalkyl ester, then squeezing off excess liquid and drying at 40-200 deg C.
